The iconic NorthWind wind farm, located in the windswept town of Bangui, Ilocos Norte, is Southeast Asia’s first ever wind facility.
The 52 MW wind farm’s turbines, lined up in a single row stretching along the nine-kilometer shoreline of Bangui Bay, creates one of the most recognizable sceneries in the region.
The wind farm is developed and operated by NorthWind Power Development Corporation, a subsidiary of AC Energy. Its first phase farm consisted of 15 wind turbines, while the second phase saw the addition of five more wind turbines to increase its capacity to 33 MW. Six wind turbines were added in 2014 as part of the last phase, bringing the total capacity of NorthWind to 52 MW.
NorthWind provides a cleaner alternative source of power supply to the region while improving power stability. It produces over 160GWh to provide 40% of the power requirement of Ilocos Norte.
Together with North Luzon Renewables, NorthWind is part of AC Energy’s 700-hectare Conservation Estate, a nature sanctuary with long-term sustainability programs that are anchored on excellent environment management, protection of biodiversity and social programs that aim to improve lives.
